First time submit weekly challenge on Pixeljoint
Animal RPG party
One of my first “serious” game ideas had a pirate theme. It also had a recurring character that has taken many shapes during the years in different game concepts, I’m guessing this would be the 6th or so version.
Nothing like a new set of GIFs from Into the Rift … erm, I mean Savior! The deliciously animated parkour game which I started obsessing with four years ago (and then again two years later) has finally upgraded from still-delicious GIFs to its first trailer, announcing the game under its new name.
Many of the sequences above should be familiar to you if you’ve previously laid eyes on Into the Rift’s trademark arrow-dodging backflips. The changed title also brings with it the new female protagonist Sam, alongside many more details about the setting and gameplay. We’ll be exploring an open world with medieval characteristics on the surface, and a hidden sci-fi city at the bottom of a rift into which the dogmatic top worlders throw you at the start of the game. The developers Starsoft promise over a dozen environments. There will be mountains to climb, caves to traverse, underwater chambers to dive into … all of course a lead to plenty of melee combat.
You’ll be able to defeat most opponents in a couple of moves, after you memorize their attack patterns. Such choreographed approach lends itself beautifully to create spectacular, cinematic fights, with difficulty ramped up by fighting multiple enemies at once and plenty of challenging combatants and mini bosses around the corner.
The persistent world with slowly change as you complete quests—everything from repairing the falling-apart infrastructure to refilling a lake with water. The premise revolving around religious surface dwellers and progressive exiles promises an intriguing experience that goes beyond cool parkour moves and riding dragons for fast travel. I don’t usually get crazy excited about platformers, but the amount of creativity going into Savior on all levels makes me very happy to make an exception.
After four years of fantasizing about what game lies behind the GIFs, we still don’t know how long till we get to enjoy it. For now, all we can do is expand our wishlist on Steam with one more exceptionally beautiful pixel art game, and follow/support its development on Patreon.
